The use of textiles in daily life is widespread, and with the increasing demand for durability and appearance, the problem of color fading has become a major concern. One of the common causes of color fading is the formation of phenolic acid, which is generated during the aging process of fabrics. Therefore, it is essential to develop an efficient and accurate method for detecting phenolic acid in textiles. In this paper, we introduce a rapid testing method for phenolic acid in textiles using a newly developed spectrophotometer.
The rapid testing method consists of three steps: sample preparation, spectrophotometric analysis, and data interpretation. First, the samples are washed thoroughly with deionized water and dried at room temperature. Then, a small amount of sample is applied to a flat-bed spectrophotometer, which is equipped with a UV-Vis detector. The spectrophotometer measures the absorbance of the sample as a function of wavelength and converts it into a numerical value. Finally, the results are interpreted based on the standard curves of different phenolic acids.
The performance of the proposed method was evaluated by comparing its results with those obtained by traditional methods. The results showed that the rapid testing method had excellent repeatability and precision, with relative errors ranging from 2% to 5%. Furthermore, the method had a fast turnaround time, requiring only a few minutes to obtain test results. These advantages make the proposed method suitable for industrial applications where time-sensitive decisions need to be made.
In addition to its practical application, the rapid testing method can also provide valuable insights into the mechanism of color fading. By analyzing the spectral characteristics of phenolic acid, we can determine the type of phenolic acid present and its concentration level. This information can be used to optimize the production process and prevent color fading in future batches.
