TEXTILE CATEGORIES ON TAOBAO: A CROWDSOURCING STUDY
This study investigates the textile categories on Taobao, a Chinese online retail platform, through a crowdsourcing approach. The study aims to explore the diversity and characteristics of textile products available on Taobao. By analyzing the data collected from crowdsourcing, it is possible to identify the most popular textile categories, as well as the trends and patterns in the selection of these products by consumers. The findings of this study can help to inform both consumers and businesses about the current state of the textile industry on Taobao.
In recent years, the textile industry has been one of the most rapidly growing sectors in the Chinese economy. As the largest e-commerce platform in China, Taobao has been a significant driver of this growth by providing a diverse selection of textile products to its vast user base. This paper aims to explore the current state of textile categories on Taobao through a crowdsourcing study.
Methodology:
The study employed a crowdsourcing approach to gather data on textile categories on Taobao. Participants were recruited from a university in China and divided into two groups: one for data collection and the other for data analysis. Results:
The study found that Taobao offers a wide range of textile products to its users, covering various categories such as cotton, silk, wool, synthetic fibers, and mixed materials. These products are sourced from both domestic and international manufacturers and are available at different price points. The cotton category, for example, includes a wide range of cotton fabrics, clothes, and home textiles. The silk category, on the other hand, includes silk scarves, ties, and other silk-based products. The wool category offers a variety of woolen clothes and blankets, while the synthetic fiber category provides a range of synthetic fabrics and clothing items. The mixed materials category, which includes products made from a combination of different materials, provides a unique selection of hybrid products with innovative designs.
Moreover, the study also found that Taobao users have a strong preference for natural fibers like cotton and silk over synthetic fibers. This preference is evident from the high sales volume of natural fiber-based products compared to their synthetic counterparts. Additionally, users also prefer products made from high-quality materials that offer better durability and comfort. This preference is reflected in the product reviews and ratings provided by users on Taobao.
